Calgary Stampede: Stampede Fireworks
Stampede dates: July 4-13, 2008
The Stampede Fireworks are spectacular! The fireworks explode in every color about 300 to 600 feet above the ground, about skyscraper hight. The nightly event, which starts around 11 p.m., at the end of the Grandstand Show. Typically, there is a trial run on the Sneak-a-Peak night (Thursday night before the Parade).
You can watch the fireworks from anywhere in or close to the Stampede Grounds.
The best viewing is from Scotchman's Hill, across the Elbow River from Stampede Park. The hill is named for the frugal Scots who wanted to watch for free. Another spectacular vantage point is from the top of the Calgary Tower (you get to look down on them), though the usual elevation charge applies!
