Home: McKenzie Towne neighbourhoods

[ Other Neighbourhoods | SE Neighbourhoods Map ]

McKenzie Towne is nestled east of the Deerfoot Trail to the east and north of Marquis of Lorne Trail (Highway 22X), beside the McKenzie Lake community. The community is innovatively built around a town square, with several past-era architectural details, including a picturesque square, a 92-foot clock spire and a Victorian bandshell. The first community is Inverness, betweem Highway 2 and Inverness Pond, and between McKenzie Toun Blvd and Highway 22X. Village of Prestwick is to the north of McKenzie Towne Blvd and the Prestwick Pond, with a 3 acre central park with playing field, backetball courts and winter ice skating with fire pit. Elgin Village is to the southeast of the pond, and will be built around a 6 acre central park, wtiha 330 foot long toboggan run..

Schools
Public school students are bused to Acadia elementary, Fairview junior high on Fairmount Drive S.E. and Central Memorial High on 21st Street S.W.

Separate school pupils are bused to St. Boniface elementary on Lake Sylvan Drive S.E., St. Bonaventure Junior High in Lake Bonavista and Bishop Grandin high in Haysboro.

Shopping
A general store in the McKenzie Towne square, with small strip malls in McKenzie Lake/Mountain Park. The area McKenzie Towne will soon have High Street, a 200 metre long retail street with a 37,000 square foot IGA, and - when done - have 500,000 square feet of retail space. The largest area shopping centre is Southcentre Mall (Anderson Rd at Macleod Trail), with other shopping and a movie multiplex in Shaughnessy off Macleod Trail, via 22X.

Recreation
McKenzie Town Hall is a 15,600 sq. ft. building with a gymnasium (for floor hockey, basketball and community events) and several multi-purpose rooms, a patio and a deck. The community has soccer pitches and ball diamonds on the land reserved for a future public school. Inverness Pond, a 30-acre stormwater facility at the east side of the Towne adds to the relaxing scenery..

On the west edge of McKenzie Lake, is the McKenzie Meadows Golf Club, on the bank of the Bow River. To its north is a pedestrian bridge across the Bow, with access to Fish Creek Provincial Park. The park also encompasses Lake Sikome, Fish Creek and connects fully to Calgary's extensive recreational pathway system.

Homes
The community was begun by Carma in the last 1980's and now has about 500 lots under development.
