Here are some of the attractions in and around Rustico:

North Rustico Lighthouse This community is actually three villages, Rusticoville, North Rustico, and South Rustico each about 4 kilometres from the other. North Rustico has a wildlife park while South Rustico has a monument to Georges-Antoine Belcourt who was a parish priest who sent on to found the Farmer's Bank as Canada's first credit union for the benefit of local farmers. The Farmers' Bank (highway 243 next to St Augustine's Church) is in n 1864 brownstone structure, and is the smallest bank ever chartered in Canada. The bank currently is home to a museum.

The Farmers' Bank Of Rustico Museum

The Farmers' Bank of Rustico, a National Historic Site, operated from 1864 to 1894 as the first people's bank and is credited with being "the precursor of the credit union movement in North America." The museum describes the settlement of the community by the Acadians and the establishment of the bank. The second floor offers a new exhibition each year, and genealogical centre. See exhibits includng the bank's own $5 note. Open June-Sept, Mon-Sat, 9:30 am-5:30 pm; Sun, 1-5:30 pm.

The Toy Factory
On Rte. 13 in New Glasgow.

A General Store for over a century, traditional wooden toys are crafted. You can watch the toy-makers at work , while eating ice cream. Children can explore a world of hobby horses, spinning tops, building blocks and climbing bears. With puzzles, games, books, shipbuilding kits... and lots of collectible Teddy Bears too!! Open May 15-Oct 15. July and Aug: Mon-Sat, 9 am-9 pm; Sun, 10 am-5 pm; May, June, Sept and Oct: Mon-Sat, 9 am-5 pm; Sun, 11 am- 4 pm. Off season by chance or appointment
