Homes: Spruce Grove
Spruce Grove, has 22,000 residents (2008), and is in Parkland County 30 kilometres (19 mi) west of downtown Edmonton. Spruce Grove is the 11th largest city in Alberta. Spruce Grove is named for the stands of tall spruce trees in the area, and was originally settled by French and Scottish families in 1891. With the arrival of the railroad, the community became a busy grain trading centre. Spruce Grove became a village in 1955, became a town in 1971, and a city in 1986.
SchoolsSpruce Grove is served by the Parkland School Division No. 70 and the Evergreen Catholic Separate Regional Division #2. Spruce Gove has 3 public elementary schools, 2 public middle schools, and 1 public high school, as well as 1 each Catholic elementary, middle and high school. The community is also home to a private Christian school, and a fine public library. ShoppingSpruce Grove has most of its shopping and malls clustered along 16A, in the southern part of the community. Shopping in Edmonton's west end is only fifteen minutes away. RecreationThe Horizon stage is a centre for performing arts here and there is a 7 screen theatre complex. The Spruce Grove Saints are a competitive Junior A hockey team.
