The region has a glorious history, going back to early explorers and fur-traders, but the area really began to boom with the 1850s gold rush. The area's early history is wrapped around the Fraser's as a major waterway into the interior and to extract resources from it.

The Fraser Valley is a string of modest population centres on the north bank of the Fraser River (Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge, Mission, Harrison Hot Springs) connected by the #7 Lougheed Highway, along with the larger communities along the #1 Trans-Canada Highway: Langley, Abbotsford, Chilliwack, and Hope. Each has its own municipal government, and is linked on our site.
