Smoke Free Fredericton as of July 1, 2003
Fredericton City Council has voted to make indoor public places in Fredericton smoke-free
starting July 1, 2003. This includes stores, malls, hotel common areas, banks, theatres,
bowling alleys, indoor amusement areas, pool and bingo halls, and places of refreshment,
including bars and restaurants. Fredericton is the first city in Atlantic Canada to enact
such a bylaw, and becomes part of a growing number of cities across Canada to ban smoking in all public places.
