In 1996, the New Burnswick government eliminated elected school boards to streamline the educational process. Fredericton is represented by School District #18, with offices (as of January 2003) at 1135 Prospect Atreet (Fredericton High School) with the phone number of 453-5454.

School District 18 is located along the St. John River in the heart of New Brunswick, and encompasses the provincial capital Fredericton, and the villages of Boiestown, Doaktown, Harvey, McAdam, New Maryland, and Stanley. The district has a total staff of approximately 1200, and has 13,000 students in 34 schools.
