Personal: Recycling at Bottle Depots
A half-back deposit system for all non-refillable beverage containers is run by Encorp Atlantic, a soft drink/grocer consortium, through 87 Enviro Depots (redemption centres).
Beer is included in the program. Depots are required by law to give a full refund for refillable containers so no discounting occurs in the province.
| Product | Deposit | Refund |
| Soft Drink (500 ml or less) | 10¢ | 10¢ |
| Soft Drink (>1.5 L) | 20¢ | 20¢ |
| Beer or Cooler Containers | $1.20/dozen | $1.20/dozen |
| Wine (500 ml or less) | 10¢ | 5¢ |
| Wine (>500 ml) | 20¢ | 10¢ |
| Other Non-Refillable | 10¢ | 5¢ |
New Brunswick has several bottle depots, that make it convenient to return empty containers for a deposit refund.
Over 500 million containers are returned each year, which is about 80 - 90 per cent of all those containers manufactured and sold. Of course, many of the balance are accounted for by the "blue box" program and are recycled, so our land fills are not burdened with unnecessary waste materials.

The Blue/Grey Box provides a convenient way to store materials until collection day. Placed at curbside, the Blue Box (paper) / Grey Box (plastics) is easy to spot when the recycling truck visits your neighbourhood. The recycling truck will collect each box on alternating weeks. In other words, one week will be grey box week; the next will be blue box week. Partially full boxes should not be placed at the curb.
Contact the Recycling Hotline if you have any questions. The Recycling Hotline (506-453-9938) is here to answer your questions from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. Information about the program can also be found online.
