Here is a quick summary of how to get involved with sports by yourself or with a group. Find out how to join a team or league, and make new friends!

Aerobics
Put on runners and shorts and head to one of the many aerobics clubs and gyms, including the "Y" locations or one of the Leisure Centres.

Auto Racing
You can watch auto racing in its various forms at the New Brunswick Interational Speedway, on Route 7 between Fredericton and Saint John (take Exit 29 at Geary to Route 660) 506-454-7223. Links to: Learn the sport
Baseball/Softball
This summer, you can watch or play in a baseball game, in one of several leagues. Contact the City of Fredericton Community Services Department Recreation Division each spring for the contact names. For all local leagues from T-ball; minor baseball through to adult competitive baseball phone (506) 460-2230. Basketball
Basketball is a year-round sport. Bicycling
There are biking pathways set aside along the Saint John River (part of which forms a section of the Trans-Canada Trail), along the Canada River on the northside, and around Odell Park.

Curling

Take a "stab" at the Olympic sport of swordsmanship! Call the New Brunswick Sport Fencing Association at (306) 555-1212

Fishing

Football
Football leagues are hopping late summer into the fall. Contact the Capital Area Minor Football Association Terry McIntyre, Pres., (506) 458-0824 (day) (506) 459-8726 (evening) which is open to all children aged 6 and older who wish to play competitive or non competitive football.

Golf
Grab your clubs and head to the 70-odd public or semi-public golf courses around the province. (List and maps of golf courses. Take a class or enquire about one-on-one instruction from the golf pro.

Gymnastics

Hiking
Hiking takes you into the world of nature. This city offers near-nature jaunts along Wascana Centre, part of which includes a wildlife sanctuary. There are a number of natural areas close-by as well.

Horseback Riding
New Brunswick is horse country. You can rent a horse or learn to ride at several ranches and stables around Fredericton . There are even some dude ranches for a total ranching experience. Serious riders can contact the New Brunswick Horse Federation at (306) 780-9244, which sponsors a magazine and a number of events. For Harness racing, you can bet on the horses at the Fredericton Raceway on the grounds of the Fredericton Echibition Grounds (FREX) on Smythe Street (506) 458-8819.

Ice skating
Fredericton offers ice skating year-round, plus winter-time outdoor rinks (city rinks listing). In the summer-time, cool of at the city's indoor rinks. Learn to defend yourself at over 20 studios, where they train in both the mental and physical skills in the martial arts. Running, Track & Field
Run along any of this area's hundreds of miles of bike paths. Fredericton has over 60 kms of multi-purpose trails to explore on the south and north sides of the city. Fredericton's trail system connects with the greater Trans Canada Trail system, and visitors will find a Trans Canada Trail pavilion on The Green, in Downtown Fredericton. The city also features a unique trail bridge, which is the longest bridge in the trail system in New Brunswick! You can join organized groups like the Capital City Road Runners - Mike Richard, (506) 459-757. There are a number organized races, ranging from 1 mile to a triathlon, and several track & field meets each summer.

Skiing, Cross-Country
Close to Fredericton are several cross-country ski venues. When there's snow on the ground, try any of the larger city parks.
