To get from Fredericton to I-95, in the state of Maine, head west on Highway 2, and get off at Exit 258 and head west on #3, to cross the border at McAdam, taking Maine Highway 5 to I-95. You can also head further west to Woodstock (Exit 187), where you have a short connector to the Maine border and the northern terminus of I-95. The Trans-Canada Highway through New Brunswick was redone over the past several years, most significantly the stretch east between Fredericton and Moncton where the new highway eliminates the detour through Sussex and shortens the route about 40 km. The highway is now a 4 lane divided highway from the Nova Scotia border west to the junction with Highway 3 to the US,as well as the stetches close to Quebec and around Woodstock. There is a new bypass, taking the highway south of Fredericton, allowing through traffic to avoid the traffic at the city's larger malls, and shifting the Trans-Canada to the south shore until it crosses at Upper Gagetown. Several highway numbers have been redone, so if your maps are old, get new ones! Navigating around the city is pretty simple, keeping in mind that there are two one-way streets downtown, and that there are two bridges across the Saint John River. When heading east or west, bridges are few and pretty far apart, so you need to plan your trips around the province accordingly. Route 102 is the scenic route along the south shore, while 105 is the scenic route along the north shore (the portion east of Fredericton used to be #2, the Trans-Canada). The next bridges to the west are at over 20 km at Mactaquac, and then after another 50 km, at Nackawic-Pokiok. To the east, the next bridge is at Oromocto. Downstream of Oromocto, other than the #2 crossing, until you get to the city of Saint John there are only ferries crossing the Saint John River. New Brunswick Driving Rules
