Transportation: Hamilton International Airport

Hamilton is served by the John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport ("YHM"), on the southern edge of the city. This airport grew out of the WWII Commonwealth Air Training Station, and is named for a legendary Hamilton member of parliament who served in several cabinet capacities from 1963 to 1984, and then was head of Transport Canada for several years.

In 1980, the airport expanded by building a new east-west 8,000 ft. east-west runway, an expanded air terminal building with exapanded parking. This enabling the airport to accommodate larger aircraft, and the new 1985 Passenger Terminal Building enabled HIA to process up to 450,000 passengers per year with ease. In 2002, the airport underwent a second expansion, in order to meet the needs of WestJet, as well as the various winter tour operators, with the Canada Customs capacity is increased to 200 persons/hr

Hamilton International offers high-speed wireless internet service throughout its entire terminal. Travelers can sign in online, accept their payment option and begin surfing right away. Rates are $0.30 per minute, $4 for first 15 minutes, $9 a day, or $46 per month. For daily and monthly rates, you can use this at any participating Opti-fi airport locations in Canada and around the world.
