Sports: Cross Country Ski Trails
The Kitchener-Waterloo has anumbere of scenic cross-country skiing areas, ranging from flat to quite hilly:
Kitchener to St Agatha
The 20 km trail follows the hydro power lines, with numerous side trails, all the way to (and past) St. Agatha. Some tight switchbacks and tight technical short downhill sections.
Laurel Creek Conservation Area, Waterloo
Laurel Creek Conservation Area covers 294 hectares, has a small lake and 8 kilometres of trails groomed for cross-country skiing. Many places to rest and find food and drink along the route, with public washrooms in Waterloo Park
Bechtel Park, Waterloo
The trails are both track set for classical skiing and groomed for skate skiing, whenever snow conditions permit. Public washrooms available, at the indoor soccer centre.
Schneider's Woods, Erbsville
Wideman Road, in Wilmot Township
Schneider's Woods is a very large tract of private land which is open to cross country skiing in winter or to hikers (when no snow on the ground). The trails take you through woods, low swampy land, and rolling fields. Pets NOT allowed.
Hilton Falls Conservation Area, Milton
North of 401, east of the Guelph Line road exit.
Directly opposite the Glen Eden downhill ski resort (which is S of 401)
About 10 km of skating trails and more for classic skiing. The trails are hard-packed and pass through diverse and beautiful scenery along the Niagara Escarpment.
Pinehurst Lake Conservation Area, Cambridge
This conservation area has groomed and track set trails, and is located 12 kilometers South of Cambridge. Open weekends for cross-country skiing in winter.
Ignatius Jesuit Centre, Guelph
This retreat setting featuring skate- and classic-style ski trails just minutes from Downtown Guelph, and is home to the Guelph Nordic Ski Club. Non-members wishing to ski on the property can purchase day passes at Speed River Bicycle downtown (135 Wyndham Street North). Visitor day passes cost $5.00 each.
