The community of Meadowvale was established around 1820 by Irish settlers from New York. Meadowvale evolved to became a popular gathering place for artists during the late 19th and early 20th century, attracted by its small-town charm. To preserve the flavor of its 19th-century village, in 1980 Meadowvale became the first heritage conservation district in Ontario.
