The two most dominant physical feature in the area are Lake Ontario to the south, and the Niagara Escarpment to the West. The Lake, and the region's generally mild climate makes the area ideal for swimming, sailing, and windsurfing. The Escarpment makes this a great place to hike or bike the many nature trails, rock climb up the Escarpment, or ski down the slopes.

Oakville Burlington are the industrial Heartland of the Golden Horseshoe, being home to Ford Motors and many other manufacturers, so close Toronto's consumers. The people here move by highways or by transit and Go-Train.
