Bistro in Ender (northern Okanagan)

The Okanagan and Shuswap region doesn't really have a "restaurant scene," since it lacks both the population base and the pretention of a larger city. Each city, though, has a nucleus of its farourite, and often time-tested establishments.

In Kamloops, there are four areas that have clusters of restaurants: the downtown (west of the Trans-Canada & Hihgway 5 Junction) which has a pretty shopping district along Victoria, the Summit (around Summit & Columbia) with big-box stores and chain restaurant near the College campus, North Kamloops & Brocklehurst (mostly clustered along Tranquille Rd), and along the Trans-Canada Highway east of downtown, which has diners and restaurants catering to travellers and truckers.

In Salmon Arm, most of the downtown restaurants are close to the Trans-Canada Highway, but tend to be either close to the Town Wharf and Centennial Park or to the east clustered around the downtown.

In Kelowna, you'll find many of the restaurants downtown within a block of Bernard Street, the main drag, and many of the popular ones closer to the waterfront (where they benefit from the tourist traffic). There are some unique restaurants south of downtown in the Mission are, and a diverse range of dining choices across the lake in Westbank (clustered pretty close to Highway 97).

In Penticton, most of the downtown restaurants are on Main Street, close to Okanagan Lake (where many of the hotels are), though the popular chain restaurants are on South Main, south of Duncan. There are also a number of restaurants, cafes, winery retaurants and brew pubs northeast of town in Naramata (both in the town and along the winding road that gets you there).

Thre are also lots of restaurants in Oliver, along Highway 97 (Main Street), and in Osoyoos (along Highway 3/Main Street), which cater to locals and visitors, with a number of fine winery restaurants just off the beaten path, combining their self-grown wines with local fresh fruits, vegetables and meats.

You'll find that our "top five" lists will give you a number of good ideas where you may want to dine, even if some of the suggestions are a bit out of the way!

Use the pop-down list at upper-left to quickly find restaurants by cuisine. You can use the Restaurant Search Form to quickly filter the restaurants by community/neighbourhood AND by cuisine. You can even search by postal code, even by street to find all restaurants really close to you.

We appreciate your feedback and suggestions. Everyone can recommend a restaurant for our listings (please tell us why its "worthy") or you can send us your themed Top 5 list!
