Durham College now offers more than 80 full-time programs at its campuses in Ajax/Pickering, Uxbridge, Whitby, Oshawa, Port Hope, Port Perry, and Beaverton . Strong partnerships existed with York and Trent universities for years, eventually leading to the establishment of the Durham University Centre in 1996, which enabled Durham Region residents to take university courses here at home. In 2003, the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) opened its doors at the college's Oshawa campus. Sir Sandford Fleming College 705-743-5610 Peterborough, ON Fleming College has been around for 40 years and now has five campuses: Peterborough (2), Lindsay, Haliburton , and Cobourg. It has programs in Applied Computing and Engineering Science, Community Development and Health, Institute of Healthy Aging and Nursing, Interdisciplinary Studies, Law and Justice, Management and Business Studies, Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences, and the Haliburton School of The Arts. Trent University 705-748-1011 1600 West Bank, Peterborough, ON Trent, incorporated as a university in 1963,and is one of Canada 's Outstanding Small Universities. Trent has a beautiful 1,450-acre riverfront campus in Peterborough, with a satellite campus in Oshawa. Trent hasr 7,800 students taking high-quality liberal undergraduate education in the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. . Trent offers an outstanding university experience with access to the facilities at Durham College and the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT). University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) 905-721-8668 2000 Simcoe St N, Oshawa, ON L1H 7L7 UOIT is the province's only laptop-based university, and has over 4,300 students in 2006, and expected to climb to 6,500 students by 2010. UOIT guarantees a residence space to all qualified first-year students, with residence space for 1,300. UOIT uses one of the world's largest geothermal well fields to help heat and cool its buildings. Made up of 384 holes drilled 213 metres (700 feet) into the ground, the sophisticated system takes advantage of the earth's relatively constant temperature to provide a stable, low-maintenance and efficient energy source.
