Crystal Beach, Crystal Bay, Rocky Point, Lakeview Park, Shirley's Bay -Ottawa-Gatineau, Ontario neighbourhoods and nearby communities

This West End community, originally part of Nepean, is located along Carling Avenue and Corkstown Rd, west of Acres Rd and east of Moodie Drive. The neighbourhood has a lake-side cottage feel, and overlooks beautiful Lac Deschenes.

Crystal Beach is between Carling Avenue & Corkstown Rd , across from Dick Bell Park. Lakeview lies to the south, right along Corkstown Rd, and has ready access to Corkstown Park and its outdoor pool.

Just north of Carling Avenue are the two communities of Rocky Point, and Crystal Bay, both with great views of Lac Deschenes, and some of the lakefront properties with beaches. Further west and still north of Carling, is the community of Shirley's Bay running along Grandview Road.

The Crystal Bay-Lakeview Park area has about 4,000 residents.

Crystal Beach has become one of the most desired real-estate locations in Ottawa. With its proximity to Andrew Haydon Park along the Ottawa River, access to the Queensway/417, Kanata being 5 minutes to the west, and Bayshore Shopping Centre just to the east. Crystal Beach was developed over the late 1950s and early 1960s by Minto Developments Inc., originally with just 5 models. Some of the community's newer homes were built by Garand Homes. The community also has the Riverpark Place retirement home.

This are is relatively new neighbourhood, with 14% of homes pre-dating 1960, 53% built 1961 -1970, 12% constructed 1971 - 1980, 9% 1981 to 1990, 7% built 1991 - 2000, and 7% built since 2001. The neighbourhood's 1,700 homes were 77% single family, 2% semi-detached, 5% row houses, and 14% low-rise apartments. 82% of the residents own while 18% rent their homes.


The neighbourhood has an early French immersion school and a Special Education elementary. Regular elementary school and Catholic Elementary students go to school in nearby Bells Corners, and high school students are served by St Paul High School, Bell High School, and Collège catholique Franco-Ouest.


Shopping is available either south in Bells Corners (via Moodie Drive), or east along Carling, and particularly at Bayshore Shopping Centre. Andrew Haydon Park - Windmill


The community offers all sorts of outdoor recreation around Andrew Haydon Park, the Nepean Sailing Club at Dick Bell Park, and recreational trails in the Greenbelt lands to the west of the community. Corkstown Park has an outdoor pool in summer and three tennis courts, Make Park has an outdoor ice rink, and Lakeview Park has two ice rinks, one for hockey and one for recreational skating. Barry Mullen Park, in Shirley's Bay, has a baseball diamond.

To the west is the Lac Deschenes Sailing Club, accessed via Rifle Rd off Carling, as well as a campground, and the Connaught National Army Cadet Summer Training Centre (and world famous rifle range)
