Nutana is a primarily residential neighbourhood across the river from downtown Saskatoon, Nutana was granted in 1883 to the Temperance Colonization Society, who established the first permanent settlement in the Saskatoon area with ferry service started in 1884 to expedite traffic between Regina and Battleford. and became part of Saskatoon in 1906. The era prior to World War 1 was a boom to the ear, which still has many buildings dating back to this time,

Nutana is anchored around the business district of Broadway Avenue, which was once the main street when Nutana was a town. Today, Broadway Avenue has mostly independently-owned local businesses, with more shops & services along 8th Street There is an art gallery cluster at the "Temperance Street Triangle" (Temperance Street, Lansdowne Avenue & 13th Street East) and at Broadway Avenue & Taylor Street.
Recreation
For fitness buffs, there is the Meewasin Trail on the south/east bank of the South Saskatchewan River. There are outdoor pools in Holliston and Ashley parks. To the southwest, with it hiking trails and cross-country ski trails. There are significant recreational resources on the U of S campus, nearby. There are several golf courses south of Highway 16 and the Exhibitions grounds
