Sports: Cross Country Ski Trails
The City of Sault Ste. Marie has an abundance of skiing trails, ranging from those relaxing trails to the challenging Olympic caliber trails. The city has well over a 100 km (60 mi) in nordic ski trail including a few kilometres of well lit trails for night
skiing (see Sualt Ste Marie east, west, and Michigan maps). It also maintains the Searchmont Ski Hill(it to has nordic trails), 25 miles north of the city(see downhill skiing areas).
Cross country ski trails can be found at the following locations:
- Hiawatha Highlands Conservation Area (Kinsmen Trails)
- Stokely Creek (more than 90 km of trails through beautiful terrain)
- Fort Creek Conservation Area (quite a workout, ungroomed trails)
The Kinsmen Trails have 35 km of Olympic status trails leading from a huge two-storey timber lodge. Evening skiing available. For more information call (705) 759-5310.
Stokely Creek has over 90 km of groomed, double-tracked trails itself. The trails venture throughout terrain, lakes and forest. The lodge is 29 km norht of the city with about a kilometre of skiing required to reach it. For more information call (705) 649-3421.
