Bay Roberts is on Route 70 and is a fishing community that received its name from Jersey fishermen who came here from the Channel Islands several centuries ago. The town is now a major service and shopping centre. The town's old Cable Building served as a relay station for messages between British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and American President Franklin Roosevelt during the Second World War. The town also has a walking trail through Juggler's Cove to Mad Rocks, where you can watch whales and icebergs in season.

Spaniard's Bay, is on Route 70 a few kilometres north of Bay Roberts, on the north shore of Conception Bay. The town's name reflects the era when the Spanish fished Newfoundland waters, which ended with the defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1558.
