Cupids is the first English settlement in Canada, soon celebrating the 400th anniversary of
John Guy from Bristol, England established a plantation in 1610 (ten years before the
pilgrims came over on the Mayflower) at what was then known as Cuper's Cove.
The first recorded birth of an English child in Newfoundland took place here.
The 1995 archaeological excavations begun have uncovered the original site of the old plantation,
and artifacts recovered during this dig are found in the Cupid's Museum.
You can also visit the archaeology dig and see history being uncovered right before your eyes.
In 1910 a monument to John Guy was erected, on the 300th anniversary of the town.
Each summer the town celebrates the Cuper's Cove Soiree.

This giant Union Jack is a replica of the world's largest Union Jack flown on this site in 1910 for the tercentenary of Cupids founding. The original flag is at Cupids Museum.

Archaelogists are uncovering the original plantation site of the 1610 Colony founded by Governor John Guy. Artifacts are found daily, such as stoneware, clay pipes and 17th century glass.

One of Newfoundland's earliest Methodist churches, built in 1875 & still in operation. Contains original pipe organ installed in 1900, original bell in tower. Tours arranged from museum next to church. Tours can be arranged at the museum.
