Home: Gatchell Neighbourhood

This area is south east of downtown, nestled between the core of the city and Copper Cliff's industrial area, mostly along Lorne Street. The community includes the neighbourhoods of Gatchell and Little Britain. This area has small 30 foot lots, built mostly in the 1920s through 1940s. There are also a large number of rental apartments in the neighbourhood. The community is still very much a 'working class" neighbourhood, though many of the homes in the area have been restored. The area is very convenient to the Sudbury Memorial Hospital.

Schools
The community has four public elementary schools and three Catholic elementary schools, with high schools either to the north east or the south east, depending on where you live. The community is very accessible to Laurentian University, to the east, as well as the francophone College Boreal, to the north.

Shopping
The age of the community has a provided a number of smaller shops and services conveniently scattered throughout. It is also accessible to the shopping either downtown or along the junction of Paris and Regent Streets, where there are several shopping centres and "category killer" box stores.

Recreation
The community is home to the Gatchell indoor swimming pool and Queens Athletic Park, with its track & field. Junction Creek is undergoing a transformation as the Trans-Canada Trail is being constructed through the vacant lands along its banks. The location on the western edge of Sudbury gives it ready access to the Fielding Bird Sanctuary and Fielding Park along Kelley Lake, to the south west.
