Homes: Capilano Highlands (North Vancouver)
Capilano (or Lionsview) is a charming, enclave between Edgemont Blvd and the Upper Levels Highway. The neighbourhood was developed after World War II, as a nice area with starter homes for returning servicemen to begin raising families. The area lies on gentle forested slopes and the neighbourhood is adjacent to the Edgemont Village shopping district. Access to Downtown Vancouver is quick via Capilano Road and the Lions Gate Bridge.
Shopping
There is some shopping along Capilano Rd, but the area's best shopping is in Edgemont Village along Edgemont Boulevard. The closest major mall is West Vancouver's Park Royal Shopping Centre with additional shopping east & west along Marine Drive.
Schools
There are no schools within Capilano, but Highlands Elementary and Cleveland Elementary schools are school nearby and Handsworth Secondary School is not too far up the hill. There is a public library in Edgemont Village.
Recreation
The neighbourhood has a number of small parks, with a forested ravine park along MacKay Creek. Along the Capilano River is Capilano Regional Park with the popular Capilano Suspension Bridge tourist attraction and a road to the Fish Hatchery below the Cleveland Dam. To the east is William Griffin Park, just above the Upper Levels, with a community hall and an indoor pool.
Homes
The Capilano area has many older bungalows and ranch-style homes typical of the 1950s and 60s, some in original condition, but many have been upgraded or expanded over the years.
