Capitol Hill lies north of Hastings Street and is built on and around the Capital Hill, which rises 203m (666 ft) above sea level, between Vancouver and Burnaby's mountain. The neighbourhood is located between Willingdon Avenue to the west and Fell Avenue in the east, and has active Italian and Croatian communities, and has many students attending the nearby Simon Fraser University. The community has excellent bus service along Hastings Street.
There are several apartment buildings in the area, mostly along Hastings Street.Although the majority of housing is single-family, the size and value of land increases towards the top of the hill as does the view of downtown Vancouver and the water.
The popular Heights shopping district is located along Hastings Street, and Lougheed Mall is close by, to the south.
The neighbourhood has a number of parks and recreational pathways along its northern perimeter. To the west is Confederation Park which runs down towards the waterfront and has a running track, and indoor and an outdoor pool and a public library. To the east is Kensington Park, with a pitch & put, a running track, and outdoor pool and an ice arena.
The neighbourhood is served by an elementary school, a public library and is close to Alpha High School. Post secondary students are close to Simon Fraser University to the east and BCIT to the south.
