The town of 2,000 is named for Sir Robert Digby, a British rear admiral who transported 1500 Loyalists from
New England in 1783, in a convoy led by his ship HMS Atlanta. Digby is on a narrow strip of land that
separates the Annapolis Basic from the Bay of Fundy. Fundy's tides are the largest in the world, up to
10 metres, 32 ft. The town is home to one of the largest scallop fleets on the Atlantic, and has several
fish processing plants, and a producer of smoked herring, locally called "Digby Chicks".
One of the early settlers was the great grandfather of inventor Thomas Alva Edison. The town's
Trinity Anglican Church (1785) - the only church in Canada to be built by shipwrights. The United Church at
Bayview (1877) was built as the first Presbyterian Church in Canada and later was converted to a United Church.
Many old settlers were buried in the Old Loyalist Graveyard and the Trinity Anglican Church Cemetery.
The Old Loyalist Cemetery (1783) - a United Empire Loyalist graveyard. Admiral Digby and the first
Loyalists landed here in 1783. Fisherman's Memorial (1867 - 1967) - dedicated to local fishermen
who lost their lives at sea. Soldier's Cenotaph (1921) - a monument to those who died in service to
Canada during World War I, World War II and the Korean War.
Admiral's Walk/Loyalist Park has a seaside promenade, provides great views. The Admiral
Digby Well (1780) is located on the Admirals's original property and now marks the entrance to Fisherman's Wharf.
Water Street provides a waterfront vista of services, shops, restaurants and tourist facilities, along
with a spectacular view of the Annapolis Basin and Digby's Scallop Fleet. The Point Prim Lighthouse (1817)
which sites on the high cliffs overlooking the Bay of Fundy was one of the first lighthouses in Nova Scotia.
Digby Scallop Days - second week in August, Digby celebrates its dependence on the sea, with a
Queen's Ball, a Grand Street Parade, scallop shucking and gear-knitting competitions and -- as it's
Grand Finale -- a parade of the scallop fleet in the harbour under the fireworks!

Housed in a mid-1800s Georgian home, the museum presents period rooms showcasing important collections of furnishings,
permanent exhibits, paintings, photographs, maps, and artifacts that relate to the interesting general and maritime
history of Digby County, its people and its industries. The extensive genealogy department has staff eager to assist
in researching their family histories. The museum has also provides a narrated Historic Walking Tour of Digby three
evenings a week all summer. Open Mid June to August 31 (Tuesday to Saturday 9 - 5; Sunday 1-5); September 1 to mid October (Tuesday to Friday 9 to 4:30); Off Season Wednesday and Friday (9 - 4:30).

The society was established in 1983 to preserve the history of Bear River and surrounding area. The museum houses
displays of diverse aspects of life in and around Bear River. The museum also features an extensive collection of
military memorabilia of veterans of the community. Open July 1-October 1, Mon-Sat 9:30 am-4:30 pm, Sun 1:30 pm-4:30 pm.

Gilbert's Cove Lighthouse

The aim of the society is to maintain and beautify the 95 year old lighthouse. On display are many historical pictures
as well as some marine artifacts. There is a tea room, craft and souvenior room and plenty of parking.
There is a beautiful picnic area and a wonderful spot for beachcombing and swimming. Everyone is welcome.

Point Prim Lighthouse
Digby Gut - Point Prim (Prim Point), a rocky headland, is the west entrance point for Digby Gut,
the deep water passage, 0.4 mile wide, between high steep shores, which leads to Annapolis Basin.
Savary Provincial Park
101 Highway , 15 minutes west of Digby
The park has ann open and hardwood-treed picnic area with panoramic view of St. Mary's Bay,
scenic walking trails, lovely beach, picnic tables and public washrooms.
At low tide you can beachcomb along the rocky shorelin.

Musée Sainte-Marie is the largest wooden church in North America a collection of church artifacts such as vestments,
furnishings, documents and photographs are on view for visitors and parishioners. Open May-October
(Thanksgiving weekend) daily 9:00 am-6:00 pm no admittance during funerals, masses and weddings.

Upper Clements Theme Park

just 20 minutes east of Digby
Upper Clements Park is a Family Entertainment Centre for All Ages, which is provincially owned but
operations are run by the Hanse Society, a community-based, non-profit organization. Children
especially love it. It is a family park of discovery, modern adventure and old fashioned fun.
It is also a dazzling showcase of Nova Scotia's heritage and culture. A waterslide park, paddleboats,
miniature golf and skateboarding are also available within the Digby area. Open: June 9 to Labour Day.
