This town was settled by Scottish immigrants from Invernesshire. The community has been a coal mining centre since 1865. The town, today with 2,000 residents, is a great base for several scenic drives along Highway 19, the Ceilidh Trail.

Located in a former railway station in the centre of town, the museum has eight rooms of exhibits about the pioneers of Inverness and the area's coal mining. Allow 30 minutes. Open Mon-Fri 9 am to 5 pm, weekends noon- 5 pm from mid-June to Labour Day; by appoint the rest of the year. Admission $1, $0.50 for children and students.
