In 1980, the airport expanded by building a new east-west 8,000 ft. east-west runway, an expanded air terminal building with exapanded parking. This enabling the airport to accommodate larger aircraft, and the new 1985 Passenger Terminal Building enabled HIA to process up to 450,000 passengers per year with ease. In 2002, the airport underwent a second expansion, in order to meet the needs of WestJet, as well as the various winter tour operators, with the Canada Customs capacity is increased to 200 persons/hr Hamilton International offers high-speed wireless internet service throughout its entire terminal. Parking Hamilton International Airport offers parking for about 2200 vehicles including Short-Term parking located directly in front of the Air Terminal Building and Long-Term parking located just beyond the short-term lot. Both lots are fully automated for entry, and you can use your Credit Card for faster check-in and check-out (must be the same credit card). For Long Term parking rates are $2 per half hour, with maximums of $10 per day, $50 for the first week (plus $10 per day therafter).
