A short walk from Falls, see 195 aquatic species, in more than 50 exhibits ranging in size from 200 gallons to the 100,000 gallon Atlantic bottlenose dolphin exhibit. Species include sharks, sea lions, endangered penguins, harbor seals, electric eel, brilliantly colored fish. Self guided tour takes about 1 hour.

The Tonawandas' Council of the Arts is located in this National Historic Site,
with three gallery rooms for monthly exhibits of visual arts as well as performance, lectures, film and instructional programs for children and adults.

Cave of the Winds

Cave of the Winds is a cavern located behind the Bridal Veil Falls, created by an overhanging ledge of Lockport Dolostone rock at the top of the gorge, over which the Bridal Veil Falls flowed. In 1901, this cavern originally measured approximately 130 feet high, 100 feet wide and 100 feet in depth. Accessed by staircase since 1829, and by elevator since 1925, but by 1955 the instability of the eroded overhanging ledge became too dangerous for tourists, and the cave was reduced to only 30 feet, the original Cave was destroyed with dynamite in 1955. Today's "Cave of the Winds" is a guided adventure to the base of the Niagara Gorge and over a series of wooden decks below the Bridal Veil/Luna Falls coming within twenty five (25) feet from the Falls on the hurricane deck. Raincoats are issued but be prepared to be soaked by the thundering cataracts. Open Seasonal. Admission Adults $8.00 - Children $7.00. On the Ontario side, see the equivalent "Journey Behind The Falls" or "White Water Walk" attractions.

Tour through a large 2,430 foot water-power tunnel which was blasted out of solid rock over 1-1/2 years in 1858-1859.
It was the invention of Birdsill Holly, who also developed the district steam heating system, the Sybills steam fire enging and the first municipal system os fire-fighting, the rotary pump and the method to pump water to homes through a tap.
You can take an Underground Boat tour at the cave, a 30 minute guided tour in an underground boat. Light jackets are recommended as the cave temperature is a constant 55 degrees year round.
Daily tours are scheduled at 10 a.m., noon, and 2 p.m.
Cave tours take 55 minutes (not including the optional 30 minute boat ride).

From Prospect Point see the rapids that drop 50 feet (5 stories) that last half mile before the falls. The Tower's observation deck extends over the Niagara Gorge wall to provide spectacular views. Take the elevator to the top and you'll stand far above the gorge, gazing down at the full drop of the churning cascade. Also from the lower landing of the elevator, you can board the Maid of the Mist boat ride. $1.00 (US) for adults and children. Admission is free for children five.
