Key dates for the election

• Political parties and candidates must register with Elections Canada in order to appear on the ballot. Donations parties & candidates receive are tax deductible, and they qualify for government payments equal to 60% of their election expenses.

  Nominations for candidates for the 2008 elections will close 21 days before voting day. See Elections Canada's Political Party Handbook and Election Handbook for Candidates  for all the details about the rules that apply to political parties and individual candidates. 

• Advance Polls October 3rd, 4th, and 6th from noon to 8:00 p.m.
• Mail-in Voting
• Election Day October 14th (with staggered hours across country
• New Voter ID requirements
