Sports: Cross Country Ski Trails
The City of Sudbury has created and maintains a series of cross country ski
trails close to city residents (see city and area maps). It also maintains the Adanac Ski Hill, off
Kingsway (see downhill skiing areas).
The Lake Laurentian Conservation Area provides over 55 km of trails. These trails join into the trails south of Laurentian University, which in turn link into the trails on the Idylwylde Golf Course. This area is hilly, with splendid views of several lakes. The Voima ski area is just south of the city, just off Sunnyside Rd, along the northern shore of Long Lake. You can enjoy the rugged Canadian Shield, with flat to slightly hilly terrain. The Voima trails are not all that rugged, and may be the gentlest next to Idlewylde. The Onaping Falls Nordic Ski Club maintains trails just past Windy Lake Provincial Park, north of Onaping. Trails and parking, clubhouse and waxing shed are all located in the Park. These trails cross varied terrain, and offer views of several smaller lakes. The Onaping Falls trails offer the most hilly trails, and are excellent for competitive skiing/training. There are a number of cross-country ski facilities in the North Bay area.
