This 1200 resident resort community, on the eastern shore of Lake Nipissing and about 14 km south of North Bay, is a popular for cottages and camping. It is also famous as the birthplace of the Dionne quintuplets in 1934.

The town is in Parry Sound District, and was named by the first settler & postmaster, George Morrison, in 1881 for the town of Callander in Scotland's Perthshire, to the northwest of Stirling.
