Anti-Smoking Bylaws & Regulations
in the City of Vancouver, smoking is prohibited in all restaurants, and bingo halls, with the exception of Royal Canadian Legions and cigar bars.
Food cannot be served in the designated smoking areas in bars, casinos and private clubs (except Royal Canadian Legions). A total smoking ban on all bars, casinos and private clubs will come into effect on January 1, 2008.
Most other GVRD municipalities had incorporated 100% smoke-free provisions for all indoor establishments effective January 1, 2000 North Vancouver has been totally non-smoking since January 2002, but permits smoking on outdoor patios. West Vancouver generally does not allow smoking but still allows smoking rooms, as long as they are separately walled and ventilated and take no more than 50% of the area and seating capacity.
