West Kildonan – Garden City neighbourhoods

West Kildonan is the area north of Inkster Blvd and west of the Red River. The area is liked for its large parks, including Garden City in the west, and Kildonan Park along the River. The area is also convenient to several shopping malls on the west along McPhillips Street. This community was developed about 60 years ago and houses in this area range from $50,000 to $100,000.
Newer homes tend to be north of Leila, including the Parkway Village neighbourhood with its larger homes, condominiums and even rental homes. Homes in this area run $140,000 to $300,000. Further north, up Main Street past beautiful Kildonan Park are the neighbourhoods of Riverbend, River Grove, and Riverdale. Homes in these communities run $75,000 to $180, with larger homes in the Riverdale area running $145,000 to$300,000.
Schools
This community is served by the Seven Oaks School District #10 and has 22 schools including 3 high schools. This district offers an English/Hebrew and English /Ukrainian program, and various languages are offered in after-school programs. There are also 2 public libraries in the community. The community is close to the University of Winnipeg’s downtown campus.
Shopping
McPhillips Street is home to several shopping malls, including Templeton Square, Garden City Square Garden City, and Northgate. There are a number of stores and services along Main Street, including the Seven Oaks Plaza on the corner of Jefferson.
Recreation
There are four indoor ice arenas, and Kildonan Park has an outdoor pool, a cross country skiing area, and outdoor rink, and is home to the Rainbow Stage. The community is also served by two movie theatres on McPhillips Street, and the McPhillips Street Station casino. The community is also home to the Kildonan Park Golf Course, and the Kildonan Yacht Club is on the other side of the river, accessed via the Kildonan Settlers Bridge (Route 17).
