This small community, about 30 kilometres east of Emerson, was first settled by Ukrainians in 1896. It lies on the banks of the pretty Roseau River.

Annual events include the Gardenton Ukrainian Festival (mid-July), Country Concert (mid-August), pilgrimage to St Michael's (third Sunday in August)

Oldest Orthodox Church in North America. The 1897 church includes lithographed icons from St Petersburg, Moscow and Kiev. A pilgrimage is held annually the third Sunday in August

Ukrainian Museum

Museum includes a one-room school house and a thatched roof clay house. Exhibits include articles of clothing and hand tools of the early 1900s. Open late May to early September 9 am to 5 pm. Admission charged.
